JEREMY MICHAEL SEGAL

Theatre

New Media

Jeremy Michael Segal is an interdisciplinary theatre and new media artist with degrees in Theatre and Computation Arts. With a strong interest in scenographic dramaturgy, his practice ranges from multimedia theatre to interactive installations. He is Co-Artistic & Executive Director of Youtheatre, a 57-year-old company creating bold work for young audiences, and Founder & Artistic Director of Machine du Ciel, an interdisciplinary creation company.

Jeremy’s work as a theatre creator has been presented within the scope of the Fantasia International Film Festival, Ottawa Children’s Festival, Printemps Numérique, and SQET’s international theatre conference. His new media work has been nominated for an international Lumen Prize, and presented at the Prague National Theatre’s Laterna Magika Festival, and the International Symposium on Electronic Arts.

Jeremy's approach to creation was greatly impacted by the late theatre director Robert Wilson. He studied Wilson's methods for two summers at the Watermill Center, and later performed in Wilson’s Turandot at the Canadian Opera Company.

Most recently, Jeremy worked as co-creator, director, choreographer, and video-designer for Heartbeat Reverie, a visual theatre show for young audiences. The piece was nominated for eight Montreal English Theatre Awards, including Outstanding Director and Outstanding Production. He is currently planning a European tour of Heartbeat Reverie and developing a scenographic installation on climate catastrophe which will premiere during the 2027 Prague Quadrennial.
